First and foremost, all the members of the Boomshack would like to thank all the funkonauts who have been coming out to our shows. All of you getting down with us during the show and the kind words afterwards make this whole thing a lot of fun. So, from the bottom of our funky little hearts we thank y’all – if it weren’t for the restraining orders, we’d give every single one of you a big sloppy kiss on the cheek.
Second, we’d like to extend a special thanks to the folks at Bray’s Brew Pub – Mike, Sonja, and the entire staff. Back when we were getting this deal off the ground a year ago, the good folks in Naples were one of the first to sign us up and give us a place to jam. Since then, we’ve been back a whole bunch of times – outdoors, indoors, snow, rain, and sunshine – and it’s always been a good time. Also, we’d like to thank the folks at The Run of the Mill in Saco who hold the distinction of being the very first folks to give us a gig way back when. In between, it’s been a series of smiles with all the kind people at The Big Easy, Empire Dine & Dance, Bull Feeney’s, Kelley’s Row, Gingko Blue, Jimmy The Greeks, The Press Room, The Church, Federal Jacks, and Montsweag Roadhouse. Thank you for giving us a listen and a place to share our music.
So let’s get to third before things get a little too out of control, shall we? Third, thanks to all the folks who have been hanging with us through this whole process. To Scott Morgan – a bona fide original member of the Boomshack who recorded our awesome demo and has been jumping in with us on gigs ever since. To John Mclaine – one of the driving forces behind The Fogcutters who has been kind enough to share the stage with us a couple times. To Alex Cardamone – our favorite funky trumpet player who has been good enough to hang with us throughout the last year. To Chris Marro – for banging out the beat on gigs with us. And to the folks like Jim Robins and Sayid Brent who sat in with us a bit – dang, it was fun.
After a year, it’s been a blast funkonauts… and we’re looking forward to the coming year even more. Stay funky my friends.
Rain got ya down? Cheer up Funkonauts! Funky Friday is heading your way as the Boomshack hits the road to Naples, Maine this week and another good time at Bray’s Brew Pub. Never been to Bray’s? For shame! Located right on Route 302, it’s a cozy pub in an old Victorian bursting at the seams with good eats and craft beers on tap. Oh yeah, and lots and lots of music to boot.
Now that James has returned from his leisurely tour of Europe, Asia, and the sub-continent, he’s ready to get funky like a bowlegged monkey. Sam returns to the mothership after siding it up with Tom Gallant at Asylum last weekend. The band is back together people… and ready to play.
We drop the beat at 9:30 pm and keep rolling until half past midnight. Never a cover and always a good time – come check us out!
Good morning Funkonauts!
Let’s get this thing started out on the good foot, shall we? Lots of thanks to everyone who has been coming out to our shows. As much as we all love playing music, it’s always better when we can see y’all gettin’ down in front of us, having a good time. We truly appreciate all the kind words and the support over the last year.
Speaking of which, this June marks the Boomshack’s first year of playing out live! We’re going to be celebrating big time this coming Saturday night at The Run Of The Mill in Saco. We’ll be out on the patio (keep yer fingers crossed for good weather) getting the crowd moving. If you’ve never been over to The Mill before, there’s plenty of room to dance and lots of good craft beer on tap. Get there early and help us get the party started right at 9pm. No cover, no excuses. Joining us for this great night on guitar will be an original member of the ‘Shack, Scott Morgan.
The rest of the month is going to be a busy one as well. The weekend after next, we’ll be at Bray’s Brew Pub in Naples for Funky Friday June 8th (no cover). We’ll be at Mr. Goodbar in Old Orchard Beach on Thursday June 14th (21+ and $5 cover) – this is a new venue for us and we’d love to see all your smiling faces in the audience to support us. Then we’ll be at Gingko Blue in Portland on Funky Friday June 22nd (no cover) for all you Old Port aficionados. Also, if you’re finding your way up to The Maine Blues Festival on Father’s Day weekend, you’ll be able to catch Sam and John playing on Friday and Saturday – more information once we find out venues and times.
Again, thanks for coming out and we look forward to seeing y’all very very soon. Remember to like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter for all the latest updates.
Dig funkonauts, we’re bringing the funk back to Bull Feeney’s this Friday night in a big way. Coming to you all the way live.
Dig out them platform shoes, clean the gunk off them sunglasses, and bring your flashlight – starting at 9:30 pm we’re bringing nothing but straight soul and funk until 1:00 am. So slide on down to Fore Street this Friday night for a good time with us!
And for those future-looking folks out there, we’ll be heading out of Portland for a bit after this… Saturday March 3rd at Kelley’s Row (Dover, NH), Friday March 9th at Bray’s Brew Pub (Naples, ME), and then a big St. Patrick’s Day bash on Saturday March 17th at Jimmy The Greek’s (Old Orchard Beach, ME).
Catch us now or funk us later!
Great show at Bray’s Brew Pub tonight – thanks to everyone who made it out and especially to the hard-working staff who have made their place like our second home in 2011. Looking forward to more good nights up in Naples in 2012.
Speaking of 2012, we’re going to be at Montsweag Roadhouse Saturday December 31st for a New Years Eve bash. Music starts at 9:30pm – get out early to make sure you don’t miss a note of sweet, juicy funk.
And to round things up, it looks like we were getting wicked famous even before we knew it. Back in late July, we got a mention in the Bangor Daily News when they did a post about Kenya Hall. We’re in the sixth paragraph down and it goes a little something like this…
Maine isn’t know for its thriving soul and funk scene, but Bangor’s Juicebox and Portland bands like the Sly-Chi (who are also playing the Dispatch ME stage at KahBang), Mama’s Boomshack and the Kenya Hall Band are changing that. KahBang this year in particular is bringing more soul, funk and hip hop to Maine than any other festival in recent memory has seen, making it one of the most musically diverse festivals in the state.
Cool! No matter where you’re spending tomorrow night, have a safe and happy New Years Eve. We’re looking forward to seeing everyone in 2012!
Things are getting hectic. The mall parking lot is just this side of demolition derby, you’re still trying to crank out those last few cards in the desperate hope they’ll get there before Christmas (which they won’t – sorry), and you’re so loaded up on eggnog and cookies that an artery is about to blow.
Hey, chill. We’re here to help.
If you need something to look forward to this holiday season, then have no fear! We’re playing two big shows on New Years Eve weekend to help you finish up 2011 with something approximating a bang.
Friday December 30th we’ll be at one of our favorite haunts, Bray’s Brew Pub, on Roosevelt Trail in Naples. Show starts at 9:30 pm and gives you a most excellent chance to get in some last minute training for the big night.
Saturday December 31st we’ll be at the Montsweag Roadhouse on Route One in Woolwich. Show starts at 9:30 and we’re going all the way to 1:15 am to help y’all funk the new year in with some style.
See, feel that stress melting away already? Just another service we provide.
