The Final Show

2016-10-14-phome-webAfter six years of making the world just a little bit funkier, it’s time for us to take our final bow. We’ll have one last Funky Friday on October 14 at Portland House Of Music & Events to celebrate.

Six years is something like sixty in band years, which is as much a tribute to the people who have supported us throughout this journey as it is to the tenacity and energy of the musicians themselves. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has ever come out to a show, bought a t-shirt or CD, played our song on the radio, mentioned us online or in print, and introduced our music to a friend. It’s been our pleasure to write and play music for you.

Another set of thank you’s go out to all of the people who booked us for shows throughout the years – after all, what would a band be without a place to play? We’ve been grateful for each show we’ve gotten to play and never lost sight of the faith people put in us to put on a good show. Among all the great people we’ve gotten to work with, a couple deserve some special attention…

Thanks to Sonja at Bray’s Brew Pub, who booked us for an entire year of shows based solely off our demo and has kept us traveling up to Naples consistently ever since. She also helped get us in the door with the Maine Blues Festival, which was a blast to play.

Thanks to Doug at Bull Feeney’s for the monthly residency that lasted almost two years and gave us a chance to play in front of a ton of people.

Thanks to Ken at Portland House Of Music & Events and the old Big Easy. Our first show was at The Big Easy when Ken called us for a last minute fill-in, and it’s only appropriate that we’ll be finishing this run at his newest venue. Not only has he spent years supporting music in Portland, Maine but he also treats every single band/artist with tremendous warmth and respect.

We’d also be remiss if we didn’t thank Jonathan Wyman of The Halo for making the sessions for Speed Of Soul an absolute pleasure and dream come true. Another big thank you to Adam Ayan of Gateway for mastering our album to perfection.

Most of all, thank you to all of the family members who have supported us throughout this trip. It’s not easy living with someone in a band – rehearsals, practice time, and gigs take up a lot of time. Thank you for loving us, coming out to the shows, and bringing dozens of people with you. Thank you to the extended family of Boomshack alumni who have wandered through the band… Anthony, Scott, Chris, Nick, Sam, and Lisa.

We’re looking forward to raging one more time with you at Portland House Of Music & Events on Funky Friday October 14. Get your tickets online now for only $8 or for $10 day of the show. Ya dig?

Back To The Future – This Saturday Night At Bull Feeney’s!

bull-feeneysFunk upon a time ago, we had some good times playing our monthly gigs at Bull Feeney’s – tunes were belted, drinks were spilled, fun was had. Well, it’s time we got back to our roots for a hot minute, so we’re bringing the funky soul you know and love back to one of Portland’s live music institutions. Saturday night August 1st, come catch us at Bull Feeney’s – you know the drill, 9:30pm until they kick us out at 1:00am.

If you’ve never been to Bull Feeney’s, y’all are in for a treat. Great food, lots of great beer, and we’ve got a big ol’ place for you to dance. There’s no cover, so save your cash for a cold beverage.

The Final Funky Friday This Week!

2014-04-25-bullfeeneys-webGreetings funkonauts! This one is going to be a little sad for us, but we’ll do our best to work through it. Just promise to hold us close if we break down in tears, okay? Okay.

This Funky Friday night, April 25th, will be the end of our monthly residency at Bull Feeney’s. It’s been our pleasure to rock the house every fourth Friday for the last two years and we appreciate all the support y’all have thrown our way by coming out and getting down with us. However, all good things have to come to an end. We’d like to thank Doug Fuss for giving us the opportunity to play each month and the incredible staff who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to make sure we made it out with all our equipment intact.

So, c’mon out Friday night and help us turn this mutha out for the final time… ya dig?

Funky Double Feature This Weekend

Hello funkonauts! It’s time for us to get back to what we love doing most – dedicating ourselves to the preservation of the motion of hips. We’ll be giving clinics twice this weekend on how to shake everything you got…

Funky Friday night (March 28th for those of you scoring at home) we’re at Bull Feeney’s in Portland, ME. As always, this is going to be a party and you don’t want to miss out. The beat drops at 9:30 pm and we keep rolling until they kick us all out onto the sidewalk.

Saturday night (March 29th) we’re at Bray’s Brew Pub in Naples, ME. Just because spring has been a bit of a jerk this year and refused to play nice doesn’t mean it isn’t a good time to head up to the lakes. Bray’s has you covered with some local brews and homecooking – we kick off at 9:30 pm.

Thanks again to y’all for coming out to shows – be sure to sign up for our email newsletter over there on the right side of the page (scroll down a bit, you’ll find it) so you can keep up to date on what’s happening each month. The album goes in for mastering early next week – we’re still on track for having this done pretty soon, kids. Stay tuned for more!

Funky Friday at Bull Feeney’s

1794557_10101515759866929_2042081279_nWell, the reindeer games are done in the studio, so it’s about time we got back out into the world and got our funk on!

Um, it’s still cool if we keep our pajamas on though, right? Right?

Fine, we’ll change…

Tonight, we’ll be hitting Bull Feeney’s like Big Papi taking batting practice – it’s gonna be greasy. It’s gonna be sweaty. It’s gonna be funky. You need to be there. 375 Fore Street is the address and the beat drops at 9:30pm with no cover. If necessary, James and Alex will give out big sweaty hugs to everyone who asks.

So yeah, we’re finished recording the album – nine songs laid down and mixed. We’d like to thank uber-producer Jonathan Wyman over at The Halo for all his hard work and expertise in helping these songs come to life. And while we’re at it, thank you to everyone who kicked in on our PledgeMusic campaign! You’ve been an incredibly important part of making this album.

If you haven’t pre-ordered the album or pledged yet, it’s not too late! We’re keeping the campaign open until the end of March so you can jump on that train right now. Why are we still shilling for this you might ask? Because we set a modest goal for our campaign that covered half of our recording costs (we pulled together the other half). Now that we’re finished recording, it’s time to master all the tracks – a very important part of the process. Every pledge and pre-order now will help us cover the cost of working with some of the best mastering engineers on the planet and help this little baby of ours reach its full potential. So what are you waiting for?

See you tonight!

Funky Friday at Bull Feeney’s This Week

2013-10-25-bullfeeneys-webGreetings Funkonauts! Once again, it’s time to break out all that funky soul music that you love and bring it to one of the most hoppin’ joints in Portland! Come check us out at Bull Feeney’s this Funky Friday night. The beat drops at 9:30 pm and there’s never a cover for Funky Friday. The address is 375 Fore Street, or you can just listen for the party and see us gettin’ down in that second story corner window.

While we’re chatting so amiably, why not also throw in another reminder to vote for us in this year’s Portland Phoenix Best Music Poll as the Best R&B/Soul/Funk Act. While you’re there, throw a couple votes to the Fogcutters and all your favorite artists and musicians.

Funky Friday Makes Feet Happy

2013-09-27-bullfeeneys-webIt’s getting to be about that time when everyone gets themselves out for a good time, and we’re happy to supply the soundtrack for your Friday night adventures!

This Funky Friday, we’ll be venturing to one of Portland’s favorite watering holes, Bull Feeney’s as we’ll be tearing it up on the main stage from 9:30 pm until they kick us all out onto the sidewalks. We’ll be bringing that same mixture of funky soul music that you’ve been craving and possibly a couple of surprises.

Don’t miss out – swing on by 375 Fore Street on Friday. There’s no cover, you’ve got no excuses, and what else are you going to do on a Friday night in Portland?

Funky Friday Is Almost Here

Funkonauts, it’s been a little while, but we’re bringing the funky soul back to Bull Feeney’s this coming Friday night. As always, this is the perfect time to get out and shake something and get your weekend off on the good foot.

After this, we’ll be taking a few weeks off to enjoy the rest of the summer with our families – get a little sun and fun in before the fall hits. In the meantime, we’ll be working on some new original tunes and covers for y’all to dig once the end of August rolls around. So if you want to get your fix, be sure to get out this Friday night.

The usual rules apply – the beat drops at 9:30pm and there’s never a cover for Funky Friday, so there’s no excuses. Be there and join the rage!
