The Final Show

2016-10-14-phome-webAfter six years of making the world just a little bit funkier, it’s time for us to take our final bow. We’ll have one last Funky Friday on October 14 at Portland House Of Music & Events to celebrate.

Six years is something like sixty in band years, which is as much a tribute to the people who have supported us throughout this journey as it is to the tenacity and energy of the musicians themselves. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has ever come out to a show, bought a t-shirt or CD, played our song on the radio, mentioned us online or in print, and introduced our music to a friend. It’s been our pleasure to write and play music for you.

Another set of thank you’s go out to all of the people who booked us for shows throughout the years – after all, what would a band be without a place to play? We’ve been grateful for each show we’ve gotten to play and never lost sight of the faith people put in us to put on a good show. Among all the great people we’ve gotten to work with, a couple deserve some special attention…

Thanks to Sonja at Bray’s Brew Pub, who booked us for an entire year of shows based solely off our demo and has kept us traveling up to Naples consistently ever since. She also helped get us in the door with the Maine Blues Festival, which was a blast to play.

Thanks to Doug at Bull Feeney’s for the monthly residency that lasted almost two years and gave us a chance to play in front of a ton of people.

Thanks to Ken at Portland House Of Music & Events and the old Big Easy. Our first show was at The Big Easy when Ken called us for a last minute fill-in, and it’s only appropriate that we’ll be finishing this run at his newest venue. Not only has he spent years supporting music in Portland, Maine but he also treats every single band/artist with tremendous warmth and respect.

We’d also be remiss if we didn’t thank Jonathan Wyman of The Halo for making the sessions for Speed Of Soul an absolute pleasure and dream come true. Another big thank you to Adam Ayan of Gateway for mastering our album to perfection.

Most of all, thank you to all of the family members who have supported us throughout this trip. It’s not easy living with someone in a band – rehearsals, practice time, and gigs take up a lot of time. Thank you for loving us, coming out to the shows, and bringing dozens of people with you. Thank you to the extended family of Boomshack alumni who have wandered through the band… Anthony, Scott, Chris, Nick, Sam, and Lisa.

We’re looking forward to raging one more time with you at Portland House Of Music & Events on Funky Friday October 14. Get your tickets online now for only $8 or for $10 day of the show. Ya dig?

Funky Friday at Bull Feeney’s

1794557_10101515759866929_2042081279_nWell, the reindeer games are done in the studio, so it’s about time we got back out into the world and got our funk on!

Um, it’s still cool if we keep our pajamas on though, right? Right?

Fine, we’ll change…

Tonight, we’ll be hitting Bull Feeney’s like Big Papi taking batting practice – it’s gonna be greasy. It’s gonna be sweaty. It’s gonna be funky. You need to be there. 375 Fore Street is the address and the beat drops at 9:30pm with no cover. If necessary, James and Alex will give out big sweaty hugs to everyone who asks.

So yeah, we’re finished recording the album – nine songs laid down and mixed. We’d like to thank uber-producer Jonathan Wyman over at The Halo for all his hard work and expertise in helping these songs come to life. And while we’re at it, thank you to everyone who kicked in on our PledgeMusic campaign! You’ve been an incredibly important part of making this album.

If you haven’t pre-ordered the album or pledged yet, it’s not too late! We’re keeping the campaign open until the end of March so you can jump on that train right now. Why are we still shilling for this you might ask? Because we set a modest goal for our campaign that covered half of our recording costs (we pulled together the other half). Now that we’re finished recording, it’s time to master all the tracks – a very important part of the process. Every pledge and pre-order now will help us cover the cost of working with some of the best mastering engineers on the planet and help this little baby of ours reach its full potential. So what are you waiting for?

See you tonight!

Funky Soul Hitting The Studio

artistdevphotoGreetings to all the funkonauts out there… In case you didn’t know, we’re hitting the studio in just five days! Not only is this going to feature some old school funky soul music, it’s also going to be an old school style recording session. Going in, laying it down live, and all in about a week.

Want to be a part of this thing? We’re using PledgeMusic to help fund the session and we’re sitting at 76% of our goal right now because of all the support fans, friends, and complete strangers have been throwing our way. Although with thrilled with the progress so far, we still have a ways to go and 9 days to do it.

We’re not asking something for nothing people – you get what you give. Whatever you pledge, you get a sweet exclusive from us related to the album. You can pre-order the album for $10 as a digital download, $15 for a CD, or $20 for a signed CD. Want something more unique? How about a disposable camera filled with behind-the-scenes photos of us making the album taken by band members – along with a digital download? For $50, you get a download plus a handwritten lyrics sheet to any of our songs. For $65, you get a download plus a signed drum head. For $75 you get your name in the liner notes and a signed CD. For $85, you can have burgers in Portland with our very own “Burger” James Hebert plus a signed CD. For $150 you get a homemade pie baked by Lisa along with a signed CD. If you’re really ambitious, for $2,000 we’ll be the band for your next house party anywhere in New England.

Head on over to the page and check it out. We’ll be posting here, Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, and YouTube with updates from the studio.

Recording Our Debut Album Next Month?!

Mama's Boomshack recording our debut albumBelieve it or not funkonauts, we’ve hit 2014 and not everybody is hip to funk yet. Who woulda thunk it? Well, let’s see if we can’t fix that… February 15th, we head into the studio to record our debut album of funky soul music. That’s right, the day after Valentine’s Day – because it’s a labor of love people.

So here’s the deal… We’ve got the songs, we’ve got the studio, we’ve got uber producer Jonathan Wyman on board, and we’re only missing one thing… YOU! We’re using Pledge Music to fund half of the recording costs, which allows fans to pledge towards the project and receive some sweet exclusives for their trouble. For instance, you can basically pre-order the album for $10 (digital download), $15 (physical CD), or $20 (signed CD) – you won’t get charged unless we meet our funding goal and then you’ll automatically get the album how you want it when we’ve finished. Simple.

There’s also a bunch of other cool stuff you can get into like photos from the studio ($35), handwritten lyric sheets ($50), signed drum heads ($60), getting your name in the liner notes ($75), a burger date with our trombone player “Burger” James Hebert ($85 and that includes food), a freshly baked homemade pie from our saxophone player Lisa ($150), custom Valentine’s Day video for that special someone ($350), or a full band house party anywhere in New England ($2,000). All of which also include a digital download of the album plus updates along the way.

Updates you say? That’s right… We’ll be posting information along the way leading up to recording and during the session as well. There’s also some downloads that will be available only to pledgers – demo or live versions of songs that will then wind up on the album.

So go ahead and check out the project page, pledge, and spread the word!

We’re Recording Our Debut Album – And YOU Can Help!

studiophotoGreetings funkonauts! It’s a beautiful day here at the ‘shack, because it’s time for us to throw some love and music your way. After a few years spent refining a groove that’s launched a thousand booties, we’re recording our debut album! Better yet, YOU can be our record label.

We’re using Pledge Music, which is a great way for fans to be involved with the recording process. You can pledge to help us make the album and be rewarded with exclusives, depending on how much you pledge. If you go to our page, you’ll see a list of what we’re talking about on the right hand side. You can start off small by pledging $10 for a digital download of the album when it’s done or $15 for a CD (for the more tactile inclined amongst you). Going from there, the more you pledge the more you get – things like t-shirts, handwritten lyric sheets, signed drum heads, a burger date with “Burger” James Hebert (he’s buying), a disposable camera full of photos that we’ll take at the studio, a homemade pie baked by Lisa, a personalized Valentine’s Day video from us to whoever you choose – all the way up to your own private house party show.

In mid-February, we’ll be heading into the Halo with producer Jonathan Wyman to lay down some funky soul tracks. YOUR pledges are going to help us record this album with one of the best producers at one of the best recording studios out there. We may not have a record label or an agent, but we do have lots of people who love old-school funk and soul.

In a very real sense, YOU are going to help make our dreams come true.

So what can you do? The best thing you can do is pledge to help us make this album. After that, start spreading the word to your friends, family, enemies, milkman, pizza delivery guy, and random strangers you encounter. Point them to our page at PledgeMusic.com, tell them to sign up for our newsletter, like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter – whatever works best for them. And THANK YOU for all the support from the past few years – there’s no way we could do any of this without you!
