Greetings and salutations funkonauts! It’s been a little while, but it’s time for us to have ourselves a little hometown throwdown in our favorite town on this rock we call earth – Portland, Maine.
Saturday October 11th is the date you’ll want scrawl on your refrigerator in permanent marker – that’s when we’ll be serving up a heaping movable feast of funky soul music at EMPIRE. It’s going to be a fun night for all with our new friends OC & The Offbeats starting things off at 10pm, and then we’re going to hit the stage for the rest of the night. Tickets are only $6 and you can grab them online right now.
And if you’re heading out to the show and haven’t gotten yourself a copy of our new album, Speed Of Soul, why swing by a Bull Moose store near you (say the locations in Portland, South Portland, Scarborough, or Lewiston for instance) and get a CD for the ride? Or if you’re into instant gratification, download the whole shebang right now through Bandcamp, iTunes, Google Play, or Amazon.
See you October 11th!
Funkonauts, we’ve got an exciting couple of weeks ahead of us… We head up to Mine Oyster in Boothbay Harbor, ME for a funky Saturday night on June 21st. After that, we have our album release party at One Longfellow Square in Portland, ME with special guest Essence on Saturday July 5th.
However, you don’t have to wait until then to grab your copy of Speed Of Soul! For those inclined towards a digital download, visit our Bandcamp page and get your copy in a variety of file formats, including high-quality lossless formats. We’re also on iTunes (which is pretty cool no matter how you slice it) and will soon be available on other online stores as well. If you want a CD, head on over to a Bull Moose location in Portland, Scarborough, South Portland, or Lewiston and pick one up off the shelf – if you’re not near any of those stores, you can order a CD through their online store. We’ll also have CDs for sale at all of our shows as well.
Thanks again for all your support – we owe each and every one of you a sweaty hug after a show!
Funkonauts, bust out your party pants and boogie shoes because it’s time to celebrate with a hometown throwdown!
We’re celebrating the release of our first album with a full-on rager at One Longfellow Square in Portland on Saturday July 5th and everyone is invited. Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 day of show – you can grab yours now through One Longfellow Square’s website. Be sure to get your tickets soon because you don’t want to miss this.
Opening up the night, we’re excited to have special guest Essence. Trust us, you don’t want to sleep on this – the lady’s got skills and an album that just came out last fall. After that, it’s full-on original funky soul with us. We’re working to bring in some special guests you might recognize from the past few years – stay tuned for more details.
Of course, we’ll have copies of Speed Of Soul there for sale, but you might be able to grab a copy even earlier – more news on when the album will hit stores and the interwebs in the near future!
Grab your tickets, tell us you’re coming via the Facebook event, and share it with all your friends. Ya dig?
Greetings funkonauts! This one is going to be a little sad for us, but we’ll do our best to work through it. Just promise to hold us close if we break down in tears, okay? Okay.
This Funky Friday night, April 25th, will be the end of our monthly residency at Bull Feeney’s. It’s been our pleasure to rock the house every fourth Friday for the last two years and we appreciate all the support y’all have thrown our way by coming out and getting down with us. However, all good things have to come to an end. We’d like to thank Doug Fuss for giving us the opportunity to play each month and the incredible staff who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to make sure we made it out with all our equipment intact.
So, c’mon out Friday night and help us turn this mutha out for the final time… ya dig?
Hello funkonauts! It’s time for us to get back to what we love doing most – dedicating ourselves to the preservation of the motion of hips. We’ll be giving clinics twice this weekend on how to shake everything you got…
Funky Friday night (March 28th for those of you scoring at home) we’re at Bull Feeney’s in Portland, ME. As always, this is going to be a party and you don’t want to miss out. The beat drops at 9:30 pm and we keep rolling until they kick us all out onto the sidewalk.
Saturday night (March 29th) we’re at Bray’s Brew Pub in Naples, ME. Just because spring has been a bit of a jerk this year and refused to play nice doesn’t mean it isn’t a good time to head up to the lakes. Bray’s has you covered with some local brews and homecooking – we kick off at 9:30 pm.
Thanks again to y’all for coming out to shows – be sure to sign up for our email newsletter over there on the right side of the page (scroll down a bit, you’ll find it) so you can keep up to date on what’s happening each month. The album goes in for mastering early next week – we’re still on track for having this done pretty soon, kids. Stay tuned for more!
Morning funkonauts – it’s a beautiful day for some funk, don’t you agree? Well, then slide on downtown and shake everything you got with us. We’re playing at Gingko Blue at the corner of Fore and Union tonight in the Old Port and we want to see every one of you there. This is going to be great show because you’ll get a chance to hear all of the songs from the new album live and in person tonight along with a couple of surprises.
Speaking of the new album, we’re in the process of getting this beautiful 9-track manifesto of funky soul music mastered and ready to get printed onto shiny little discs for y’all to enjoy. Our PledgeMusic campaign is still open for pre-orders and pledges – grab your copy of the album, have it signed, or maybe sign yourself up for a homemade pie or a couple burgers with James. Why did we keep the campaign open? When we started this thing, we set a modest goal that would cover half the cost of recording the album (we fronted the other half). Thanks to your support, we reached that goal the day before going into the studio – which is awesome. Now that we’ve finished recording and mixing, there’s still the very important step of mastering – that last greasy coat of goodness that’ll turn this sucker out. If you’ve already pledged, thank you very much. If you haven’t, then it’s not too late because the campaign will be open through the rest of the month. All pledges and pre-orders from this point forward help us cover the cost of mastering and duplication.
Keep on spreading the word folks and see you tonight!
Well, the reindeer games are done in the studio, so it’s about time we got back out into the world and got our funk on!
Um, it’s still cool if we keep our pajamas on though, right? Right?
Fine, we’ll change…
Tonight, we’ll be hitting Bull Feeney’s like Big Papi taking batting practice – it’s gonna be greasy. It’s gonna be sweaty. It’s gonna be funky. You need to be there. 375 Fore Street is the address and the beat drops at 9:30pm with no cover. If necessary, James and Alex will give out big sweaty hugs to everyone who asks.
So yeah, we’re finished recording the album – nine songs laid down and mixed. We’d like to thank uber-producer Jonathan Wyman over at The Halo for all his hard work and expertise in helping these songs come to life. And while we’re at it, thank you to everyone who kicked in on our PledgeMusic campaign! You’ve been an incredibly important part of making this album.
If you haven’t pre-ordered the album or pledged yet, it’s not too late! We’re keeping the campaign open until the end of March so you can jump on that train right now. Why are we still shilling for this you might ask? Because we set a modest goal for our campaign that covered half of our recording costs (we pulled together the other half). Now that we’re finished recording, it’s time to master all the tracks – a very important part of the process. Every pledge and pre-order now will help us cover the cost of working with some of the best mastering engineers on the planet and help this little baby of ours reach its full potential. So what are you waiting for?
See you tonight!
Wednesday night, the good folks over at Asylum hosted the Portland Music Awards where the winners of the Portland Phoenix’s 2013 Best Music Poll were announced. In a field of really good bands that made up the Best R&B / Soul / Funk Act category… we, unfortunately, did not win. So first off, congratulations go out to local institution Sly-Chi for their win – we’re very happy for such a talented group of musicians. Also, lots of love to the other nominees – it was great just to stand shoulder to shoulder with y’all.
Most of all, thanks to all of YOU – the people who voted for us and are the reason we made it into the poll in the first place. It’s our pleasure to play for you and we love you all – even the ones who get a little too friendly at the end of the night. It’s okay, excessive amounts of alcohol will do that. It’s folks like you who are the reason we could come in second in what was a very loaded group of bands – that’s absolutely huge for us and we’re thrilled.
Y’all are un-funkin-believable.
