Hey funkonauts, how’s it been going? Ready to get down this weekend? Good, because we are too – times two.
Friday night, we’ll be hitting up Gingko Blue from 9pm until midnight – a slick little joint in the heart of Portland’s Old Port at 455 Fore Street. Great atmosphere, unbeatable selection of adult beverages at the bar, and some tasty tidbits on the menu. Stop on by early, get your seat warm and your whistle appropriately wet before we pack this place out with some funky good vibes.
Saturday afternoon, you can catch us at Old Orchard Beach’s Harvest Festival from noon to 3 pm in Memorial Park under the bandstand. This is a great family event with lots of stuff for everyone to do, including dancing your booty off. We know the weather isn’t looking too kind, but when was the last time anyone in New England trusted the weather report more than a day out? C’mon people, have a little faith and wait 10 minutes if you don’t like the weather – it’ll probably change. That being said, if things aren’t looking too good that morning, we’ll get the word out here and on Facebook and Twitter with details on what’s what.
So there you have it, half of your plans for the weekend taken care of and it’s only Wednesday afternoon. Be good to yourself and put on some Fred Wesley… you deserve it.
Another call has just come in over the funk hotline this weekend and we’re pleased to announce we’ll be funkin’ up Empire Dine & Dance this coming Thursday night – June 9th – from 9:00 pm until midnight. Looking for something to do? Why not wander down to Congress Street – because there’s NO COVER for this show and sure to be a funky good time. We seem to remember hearing somewhere that Thursday is the new Friday, so you know all the cool kids will out for this one.
If you came out last Saturday night, fear not – we’ve got a couple new tunes for you to check out as well. So get your booty downtown Thursday night people, and get ready to shake everything you got!
For those who made it out to The Big Easy this past Saturday night – thank you very much. We’d also like to thank Ken, Eddie, and all the staff at The Big Easy for making it such a great night and a great place to play.
Now, if you didn’t get a chance to get out Saturday, we’ve got you covered with a couple videos from the show. First up, we have our version of the Baby Huey & The Babysitters classic “Hard Times” (which was more recently covered by John Legend & The Roots on their Wake Up! album). After that, there’s some Headhunters funk with “God Made Me Funky”. Enjoy!
Every so often, the funk hotline rings here at The Boomshack (you know, the red one we keep under glass here at our palatial estate) and someone is in need of The Funk. Well, it happened again this week and we’re ready to respond.
This coming Saturday night at 8pm, Mama’s Boomshack will be shakin’ everything we got at The Big Easy in Portland, ME – and we need YOU! C’mon by for a couple pints with five of your closest friends and dance a little of that post-Memorial Day work week dust off your brain. Five bucks gets you in the door for a couple hours of funky music. At 11 pm, Goosepimp Orchestra takes over and jams the night away.
Greetings ‘Shack denziens – it’s Tuesday, do you know where your funk is? Well, wonder no more…
Mama’s Boomshack will be mixing with the folks in Portland tonight as we grab the open mic at Bull Feeney’s on Fore Street around 9:30 pm. The plan is to get there and be first on, so make sure you plan your interstellar jump early and have a pint of Guinness in hand for the appointed hour. We’ve got some good ol’ funky music along with some soulful stuff too, so bring yourself and a dozen or so friends for a funky good time.
Oh, and in case you’re not down with yet – head on over to our Facebook page and bang that Like button for us. Then, you can wander over to Twitter and follow us there as well. Imagine that – Mama’s Boomshack coming at you in 3D. So groovy… well, you know the rest…
