Greetings funkonauts! It’s a beautiful day here in Maine in spite of snow, sleet, and other miscellaneous attempts at getting us down. Why? Because tomorrow morning, we head into the studio to start recording an album!
This is a journey that began over 3 years ago when our little group of funkateers came together and laid it down playing one of the funkiest songs ever composed (that’d be “Shake Everything You Got” by Maceo Parker). From there, it’s been 3 years of getting people on the dance floor, laughter, and writing funky soul music. The fact that we’re going to be able to record our songs and keep this thing going is all because of the people who have been incredibly supportive of us – spouses, friends, family, and fans. On Valentines Day, it only seems appropriate that this’d turn into a love letter. Thank you from the bottom of our funky little hearts.
Greetings to all the funkonauts out there… In case you didn’t know, we’re hitting the studio in just five days! Not only is this going to feature some old school funky soul music, it’s also going to be an old school style recording session. Going in, laying it down live, and all in about a week.
We’re not asking something for nothing people – you get what you give. Whatever you pledge, you get a sweet exclusive from us related to the album. You can pre-order the album for $10 as a digital download, $15 for a CD, or $20 for a signed CD. Want something more unique? How about a disposable camera filled with behind-the-scenes photos of us making the album taken by band members – along with a digital download? For $50, you get a download plus a handwritten lyrics sheet to any of our songs. For $65, you get a download plus a signed drum head. For $75 you get your name in the liner notes and a signed CD. For $85, you can have burgers in Portland with our very own “Burger” James Hebert plus a signed CD. For $150 you get a homemade pie baked by Lisa along with a signed CD. If you’re really ambitious, for $2,000 we’ll be the band for your next house party anywhere in New England.
Greetings funkonauts! It’s a beautiful day here at the ‘shack, because it’s time for us to throw some love and music your way. After a few years spent refining a groove that’s launched a thousand booties, we’re recording our debut album! Better yet, YOU can be our record label.
We’re using Pledge Music, which is a great way for fans to be involved with the recording process. You can pledge to help us make the album and be rewarded with exclusives, depending on how much you pledge. If you go to our page, you’ll see a list of what we’re talking about on the right hand side. You can start off small by pledging $10 for a digital download of the album when it’s done or $15 for a CD (for the more tactile inclined amongst you). Going from there, the more you pledge the more you get – things like t-shirts, handwritten lyric sheets, signed drum heads, a burger date with “Burger” James Hebert (he’s buying), a disposable camera full of photos that we’ll take at the studio, a homemade pie baked by Lisa, a personalized Valentine’s Day video from us to whoever you choose – all the way up to your own private house party show.
In mid-February, we’ll be heading into the Halo with producer Jonathan Wyman to lay down some funky soul tracks. YOUR pledges are going to help us record this album with one of the best producers at one of the best recording studios out there. We may not have a record label or an agent, but we do have lots of people who love old-school funk and soul.
In a very real sense, YOU are going to help make our dreams come true.
Greetings funkonauts from every corner of the known galaxy! It’s good to see so many of you brave the interstellar journey to be with us here today…
Come check us out this Funky Friday July 27th when we take over the top floor at Bull Feeney’s for that funky soul that makes you lose control. We’ll be dropping some great tunes including a couple new cuts that you sure don’t want to miss. The fun starts at 9:30 pm and continues until they kick us out onto the sidewalk. As always, there’s no cover at Funky Friday so that means no excuses. Grab a couple friends and bring them downtown for a funky good time.
Never been to Bull Feeney’s? Great traditional Irish pub at 375 Fore Street in the heart of Portland, Maine’s Old Port. Lots of great beers on top with the majority of them being local Maine brews. Stop on by early for some dinner and then hustle on upstairs for a good spot on the dance floor.
Let’s get this thing started out on the good foot, shall we? Lots of thanks to everyone who has been coming out to our shows. As much as we all love playing music, it’s always better when we can see y’all gettin’ down in front of us, having a good time. We truly appreciate all the kind words and the support over the last year.
Speaking of which, this June marks the Boomshack’s first year of playing out live! We’re going to be celebrating big time this coming Saturday night at The Run Of The Mill in Saco. We’ll be out on the patio (keep yer fingers crossed for good weather) getting the crowd moving. If you’ve never been over to The Mill before, there’s plenty of room to dance and lots of good craft beer on tap. Get there early and help us get the party started right at 9pm. No cover, no excuses. Joining us for this great night on guitar will be an original member of the ‘Shack, Scott Morgan.
The rest of the month is going to be a busy one as well. The weekend after next, we’ll be at Bray’s Brew Pub in Naples for Funky Friday June 8th (no cover). We’ll be at Mr. Goodbar in Old Orchard Beach on Thursday June 14th (21+ and $5 cover) – this is a new venue for us and we’d love to see all your smiling faces in the audience to support us. Then we’ll be at Gingko Blue in Portland on Funky Friday June 22nd (no cover) for all you Old Port aficionados. Also, if you’re finding your way up to The Maine Blues Festival on Father’s Day weekend, you’ll be able to catch Sam and John playing on Friday and Saturday – more information once we find out venues and times.
It’s like George always said – funk not only moves, it removes. So if you got arthritis, rheumitism, migraines – whatever part of your body it is, maybe you need to rub a little funk on it and get some more Boomshack into your life. So, let’s get social with yo Mama and go over your options…
If y’all take a peek in the upper right corner of our site, you’ll see some buttons for various social media options. First off, you’ve got your standard issue RSS Feed – delivering all the news, info, and funky goodness from our website directly to you via e-mail or favorite feed reader. Second option is to like us on Facebook – interact with other friends of the Boomshack, get in on all the jokes, share your photos from shows, cure your acne, and let us know which shows you’ll be at. Third option is a little something called Twitter – for those of you who like your funk 142 characters at a time. Fourth up is our Flickr feed, where you’ll get to stare at our wonderful mugs and maybe catch yourself in the crowd as well.
Last but certainly not least is our YouTube channel. Don’t think this it too important? Well, get a load of some of the stuff you can shove into your earhole there…
So get on the good foot and start clicking people. We’re here to help.
Greetings ‘Shack denziens – it’s Tuesday, do you know where your funk is? Well, wonder no more…
Mama’s Boomshack will be mixing with the folks in Portland tonight as we grab the open mic at Bull Feeney’s on Fore Street around 9:30 pm. The plan is to get there and be first on, so make sure you plan your interstellar jump early and have a pint of Guinness in hand for the appointed hour. We’ve got some good ol’ funky music along with some soulful stuff too, so bring yourself and a dozen or so friends for a funky good time.
Oh, and in case you’re not down with yet – head on over to our Facebook page and bang that Like button for us. Then, you can wander over to Twitter and follow us there as well. Imagine that – Mama’s Boomshack coming at you in 3D. So groovy… well, you know the rest…
